Thai Sports Massage

Targeted recovery and performance support for active people.

Thai Sports Massage

Thai Sports Massage is a results-focused treatment combining deep tissue work, targeted stretching, and traditional Thai pressure-point technique to address sports injuries, muscle fatigue, and recovery. Maliwan draws on Thai massage's unique strength — its integration of stretching and compression — to treat not just the muscle belly but also the fascia, tendons, and joint mobility that conventional sports massage often misses. Whether you're a weekend runner or training seriously, this treatment helps you recover faster, move better, and stay injury-free longer.

Key Benefits

  • Accelerates muscle recovery and reduces delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)
  • Breaks down adhesions and scar tissue around old injuries
  • Improves range of movement through targeted assisted stretching
  • Addresses specific problem areas — ITB tightness, Achilles, rotator cuff, hip flexors
  • Prevents new injuries by identifying and treating compensatory patterns
  • Reduces inflammation and supports tissue repair between training sessions
  • Enhances athletic performance through improved biomechanical efficiency

What to Expect

Wear loose athletic clothing or shorts. Maliwan will begin with a brief consultation to understand your training load, recent injuries, and specific areas of concern. She applies firm, focused compression along problem muscles combined with passive and active-assisted stretching to release restricted areas. Pressure is strong and purposeful — the session is therapeutic, not relaxing — and will be calibrated to your pain tolerance throughout. A 90-minute booking is recommended to address multiple areas properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

For recovery work, 24–48 hours after intense training is ideal — the acute inflammation has settled enough for deep work to be effective. Pre-event, a lighter session 24–48 hours before performs well. Avoid deep work in the 12 hours immediately before competition.

It should feel like productive discomfort — "hurts so good" rather than sharp or unbearable. Maliwan will regularly check in on pressure. Communicating your tolerance isn't a sign of weakness; it helps her work more effectively on the right areas.

Yes — please describe the injury (what it is, how long you've had it, any diagnosis) when booking so Maliwan can plan the session appropriately. We work well with common sports injuries including ITB syndrome, plantar fasciitis, lower back strain, and shoulder impingement.

Loose athletic clothing or shorts work well as the session may involve assisted stretching. Avoid a heavy meal in the hour beforehand. If you have a specific injury, bring any relevant diagnosis or physiotherapy notes — it helps Maliwan plan the session from the start.

For a single problem area, 60 minutes is workable. However, a 90-minute booking is strongly recommended when you have multiple areas of concern — for example, a tight hip and a problematic shoulder — because it allows Maliwan to address compensatory patterns properly rather than just the primary complaint.

Deep sports work often leaves the treated muscles feeling fatigued and tender for up to 24 hours — similar to post-exercise soreness. Drink plenty of water, avoid intense training on the same day, and move gently. Most clients find the soreness gives way to noticeably freer movement by the following morning.

During active training blocks, once every two to three weeks helps clear accumulating muscle tension before it becomes an injury. In off-season or lighter training periods, once a month as maintenance keeps the tissue supple and joints moving well. Maliwan can advise a rhythm based on your training load.

I recently had a Deep Tissue Thai massage with Maliwan, and it was truly exceptional. This is my third visit so thought I should write a review. From the moment the session began, she created a calming, welcoming atmosphere that made it easy to relax. Her technique is outstanding- precise and incredibly intuitive. She knew exactly where to apply pressure and how to release tension without ever causing discomfort. What stood out most was her professionalism combined with genuine warmth. Every stretch and movement felt purposeful, and I walked out feeling lighter, more flexible, and completely refreshed. It was easily one of the best massages I’ve ever had. If you’re looking for an authentic, deeply restorative Thai massage, I highly recommend booking with Maliwan. She is truly gifted at what she does.

I had a Thai massage here recently and the experience was a mix of positives and challenges. The massage room was spacious, ambient, and very comfortable, especially the massage table. The masseuse was friendly, attentive, and clearly skilled. The massage itself was mostly relaxing, but at times the pressure was stronger than I could comfortably handle. I was reassured it was “good pain” due to the tightness in my shoulders and back, but I did end up with bruises on my arms and back and felt very sore for a couple of days, which affected my sleep. On the positive side, a few days later I noticed that I felt lighter and less tense, which shows the massage did release a lot of tightness. I would recommend this place for those who like deep, strong pressure massages, but if you prefer something gentler, I suggest making this clear to the masseuse at the start.

A beautiful experience — highly recommended I had the pleasure of booking a Thai massage in Glasgow today and it was a truly beautiful experience. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and at ease. The team was very friendly, incredibly professional, and delivered excellent work throughout my visit. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, and I could tell that great care was taken in every detail. It’s clear that the ladies working here are passionate about what they do, and I’m so grateful for the hard work they put in. This is definitely a place I’d love to return to — and I’m already looking forward to my next visit. Thank you again!

Fantastic place. Staff are very knowledgeable, attentive and skilled. I had some tightness in my back and hip which they noticed right away and went a long way to easing. The staff were also careful around my knee and elbow which had some sporting injuries. The rooms are serene with light music and subdued lighting. The hot oil treatment is very soothing. I look forward to returning. Many thanks
