Maliwan — Glasgow Thai Massage therapist

Meet Maliwan

Maliwan Malone is the owner and head therapist at Glasgow Thai Massage. Born in Thailand and trained at the Wat Pho Thai Massage School in Bangkok, Maliwan has dedicated over 20 years to the practice and teaching of traditional Thai bodywork. She established Glasgow Thai Massage to bring authentic Thai healing techniques to clients in Glasgow City Centre, and today leads a small team of trained therapists who share her commitment to authentic Thai bodywork.

Across two decades of practice, Maliwan has built a depth of knowledge spanning all major Thai massage modalities — from traditional dry-mat work through to oil, aromatherapy, sports, and hot stone treatments — and tailors every session to the person on the mat.

Maliwan believes that properly performed Thai massage — rooted in accurate technique, a thorough understanding of the body's energy systems, and genuine therapeutic intent — produces results that no wellness trend or spa treatment can replicate.

Our Approach to Thai Massage

Authentic Thai massage is a complete therapeutic system, not a relaxation technique. It works with the body's network of energy lines — the Sen — applying a precise combination of acupressure, passive stretching, joint mobilisation, and rhythmic compression to restore balance, relieve tension, and support the body's natural healing processes.

A properly trained Thai massage therapist understands anatomy, energy theory, and the full range of techniques required to treat the body as an integrated whole. This is fundamentally different from a massage therapist who has added Thai-style stretches to an otherwise standard treatment.

At Glasgow Thai Massage, every session begins with a consultation to understand your specific needs. The treatment is then built around those needs — not a fixed script. Whether your goal is relief from chronic pain, recovery from an injury, stress management, or simply deep restoration, the session is structured to achieve that outcome as effectively as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Authentic Thai massage training at institutions like Wat Pho involves intensive daily practice over weeks or months — not a weekend certification. Properly trained therapists study Thai medical theory, Sen (energy line) anatomy, and a full repertoire of pressure, stretch, and mobilisation techniques. This depth of training is what enables safe, effective work on complex presentations like sciatica, spinal issues, or sports injuries.

Maliwan trained at the Wat Pho Thai Massage School in Bangkok — the oldest and most reputable institution for traditional Thai massage in the world. She holds TPQI (Thai Professional Qualification Institute) certification, maintains full professional insurance, and has over 20 years of clinical practice.

We treat a wide range of musculoskeletal and stress-related conditions including lower back pain, sciatica, neck and shoulder tension, tension headaches, reduced mobility, sports injuries, and general stress and anxiety. We ask all new clients about their medical history before the session to ensure we can treat safely and effectively.

Yes, and we strongly encourage it. We conduct a brief health consultation before every first session. Certain conditions require treatment modifications (pregnancy, recent surgery, osteoporosis, active infections) and others are contraindicated altogether. Being open with your therapist allows the session to be adapted for maximum benefit and safety.

Sessions are available in 60, 90, and in some cases 120 minutes. For a first visit, 90 minutes is recommended — this allows time for a thorough consultation and a complete treatment without rushing. If you have a specific problem area, 90 minutes gives the therapist enough time to treat the whole body and give focused attention to the affected region.

We are on Floor 3, Suite 4, Victoria Chambers, 142 West Nile Street, Glasgow G1 2RQ. A short walk from Buchanan Street subway station and Glasgow Queen Street rail station. See our Contact page for full directions, including walking routes from the main transport hubs.

I recently had a Deep Tissue Thai massage with Maliwan, and it was truly exceptional. This is my third visit so thought I should write a review. From the moment the session began, she created a calming, welcoming atmosphere that made it easy to relax. Her technique is outstanding- precise and incredibly intuitive. She knew exactly where to apply pressure and how to release tension without ever causing discomfort. What stood out most was her professionalism combined with genuine warmth. Every stretch and movement felt purposeful, and I walked out feeling lighter, more flexible, and completely refreshed. It was easily one of the best massages I’ve ever had. If you’re looking for an authentic, deeply restorative Thai massage, I highly recommend booking with Maliwan. She is truly gifted at what she does.

I had a Thai massage here recently and the experience was a mix of positives and challenges. The massage room was spacious, ambient, and very comfortable, especially the massage table. The masseuse was friendly, attentive, and clearly skilled. The massage itself was mostly relaxing, but at times the pressure was stronger than I could comfortably handle. I was reassured it was “good pain” due to the tightness in my shoulders and back, but I did end up with bruises on my arms and back and felt very sore for a couple of days, which affected my sleep. On the positive side, a few days later I noticed that I felt lighter and less tense, which shows the massage did release a lot of tightness. I would recommend this place for those who like deep, strong pressure massages, but if you prefer something gentler, I suggest making this clear to the masseuse at the start.

A beautiful experience — highly recommended I had the pleasure of booking a Thai massage in Glasgow today and it was a truly beautiful experience. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and at ease. The team was very friendly, incredibly professional, and delivered excellent work throughout my visit. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, and I could tell that great care was taken in every detail. It’s clear that the ladies working here are passionate about what they do, and I’m so grateful for the hard work they put in. This is definitely a place I’d love to return to — and I’m already looking forward to my next visit. Thank you again!

Fantastic place. Staff are very knowledgeable, attentive and skilled. I had some tightness in my back and hip which they noticed right away and went a long way to easing. The staff were also careful around my knee and elbow which had some sporting injuries. The rooms are serene with light music and subdued lighting. The hot oil treatment is very soothing. I look forward to returning. Many thanks
